Some Small Progress

July 1, 2007

Astute readers will recall that one of my new years resolutions was to revive my old, long-dead site City of Shalom. I’ve been doing a few little things here and there, but by far this is one of my resolutions I have done less well on.

However, with being laid up today (well, laid up as in not feeling well, not as in actually not doing stuff), I have had some time to think about what I want to do.  It seems like the best place to start is with my on-line photography portfolio. So, Over the next few days you will hopefully hear some news about it. I think I have a good idea as to the layout and such, but it will probably not be too intensive, as it is really a stop-gap measure until I am famous enough to feel it’s worthwhile to get a separate site. Something like Or Ha ha, well, it’s probably a good thing that is a long way off.

All for now! I feel like I should do a resolution recap soon and get back on track for that too.

Finances and a Little Extra

May 15, 2007

As I sit in the glow of my laptop, stealing Moi’s internet, a little about my finances and the little surprise I had waiting for me today.

First, cash! I’ve seen lots of personal finance sites which recommend some form of the “find little ways to trick yourself into saving” method, whether it be in the form of rounding up the totals in your check book or just paying yourself daily/weekly/monthly. Well, I’d love to, but it’s difficult in light of me not having a checkbook and having altogether too much access to my savings. However, I heard from Moi about the method a friend of hers, Timm, uses. Every day, he stashes not only his pocket change but also his one dollar bills (because really, who likes those?) away in a jar. He did this all year at school and came out with about $180. This sounds good to me! Of course, the problem is that you don’t earn anything on this money while it sits, so I think I’ll only do it for pretty short periods of time. For example, my trial run is going through the end of summer. So we’ll see how that goes.

I also sent an e-mail trying to rally the troops to help rebuild City of Shalom. Uhm, yeah. Y’all are losers! Oh well, it’s a start on probably the hardest of my resolutions.

Now then, the wonderful surprise I had today. I walked out to my car this morning to find one of the windows utterly destroyed. So… Police report filed, insurance contacted, and the window will be repaired by noon Thursday if all goes well.

My corner of the couch is getting musty and hot with all the people looking over my shoulder, so I’ll go for now. Pictures and more about my car tomorrow. Goodnight!

We’re up and running!

March 8, 2007

Well, this will be short and sweet. This blog is a temp until I can create my own at City of Shalom or find someplace better to move it. I will be posting more then just a blog here, but not for a while.

For anyone who stumbles upon this through wordpress, I run a website called City of Shalom which has been in, frankly, disrepair, and is currently undergoing renovations.

I am not sure what I will be blogging about here, but I am going to make an effort to post a few times a week at least.

To get things started, my New Years Resolutions, or, “Stuff I Should Do Before I Turn Twenty.”

  1. Complete a working portfolio (photography, probably, but perhaps other graphic arts work too)
  2. Organize writing collection (old fiction, etc)
  3. Save at least an additional $1000
  4. Get into Columbia University
  5. Keep an up-to-date resumee
  6. Revive City of Shalom
  7. Have at least one salad per week (hey, it’s a start)

So thats it! My plans for this year.
More to come.
